Preity Zinta is Gorgeous
Team Punjab’s Praveen Kumar opens up to Hyderabad Times about his lucky charm, loyalties that mean nothing, and yes, Preity Zinta.
How is it going in the IPL so far? Is it getting tough?
No, not at all! In fact, I am enjoying every moment of the IPL. We are seventh in the points table, but we are hopeful of a way up.
How much have you been able to interact with your owner Preity Zinta?
We have such a packed schedule that there is hardly any time left for interactions. She does come to meet us sometimes during team meetings and she is always there at the stadium to cheer us, it feels so good. And yes, Preity is gorgeous!
How much of cricket do you think Preity understands?
I think she does understand cricket, not just because she is an owner of the team but also because she follows matches closely.
You played for team Bangalore for the last three years and you are now playing for Punjab, how difficult is it to shift loyalties?
There is no loyalty as such in IPL. The format is such that teams are expected to change. It was Bangalore for three seasons and I gave it my best. But now my team is Punjab. It’s like my family.
How does it feel to be captained by Adam Gilchrist?
Oh! It’s a fantastic feeling. He is such a great cricketer and a very good human being. He is available 24X7 for any help that you need – whether it is related to cricket or any personal problem. He does not make you feel that he is larger than life. We have lots of masti during practice or in the greenroom.
You recently lost your gold chain and refused to go to the stadium. What if you didn’t find the chain, would you not play?
Of course, I would go to the stadium even if I didn’t find the chain. But the loss would have been playing on my mind even as I played. It is not good to lose gold.
Is there any other lucky charm that you carry?
I feel my wife is lucky for me. She came to watch our match in Punjab and we won that. I think she should be there for every match of ours, that way we will win all the matches. I must tell her that! (laughs)
UK Bookie Wants to use Item Girl for IPL Fixing
Liza Malik, best known for proposing to a cricketer on a reality show, has been offered Rs 50 lakh to arrange for cricketers to talk to an international bookmaker.
Item girl Liza Malik, best known for her proposal to a cricket player on the reality show Dancing Queen, has found herself figuring on the radar of international bookmakers. A UK-based bookie, who calls himself Razaaq aka Razz, has been calling Malik asking her to use her alleged familiarity with Indian cricketers to help him fix matches in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). She has been offered Rs 50 lakh for the job.
Liza, who is also a stage performer, has done several shows that were attended by cricketers playing in the IPL and for Team India. She was also a regular at the IPL post-match parties last year.
I was in Thailand last week when the calls started pouring in from unknown international numbers. The caller said he knew that I was close to couple of cricketers and asked me to arrange for him to speak to them,” said Malik. “He offered me Rs 50 lakh if I could get the cricketers to play as per his ‘equations’. I told him that I am a mere performer and am not acquainted with cricketers, but he kept emphasising on the Bhajji controversy. After I got a little rude with the man, he threatened me with dire consequences if I did not do his bidding. It seems he has been tracking me. He knew where I lived, knew about my family and even knew that I was in Thailand then,” she added.
Petrified, Liza approached the Oshiwara police station on returning to the city yesterday and registered a complaint against the caller. “A non-cognisable complaint has been registered against an unknown person under Section 307 (issuing threats through phone calls) of the IPC. We have asked her to approach us if she gets a call from the person again and we will register an FIR then,” said a senior official of the Oshiwara police.

Cricket: IPL 2011: Super hot Sehwag leads Delhi to crucial win
NEW DELHI: Virender Sehwag finally broke the shackles and came out of the pressure of captaincy on Saturday to lead Delhi Daredevils to an attractive victory over Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League 2011 (IPL 2011) at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium.

Virender Sehwag (77 from 35 – 8 fours, 4 sixes) showed his punishing touch as he along with his left-hand Australian opening batsman David Warner (77 from 48 – 7 fours, 4 sixes) blasted Punjab bowlers brutally to all corners of the ground during their mammoth 146 runs opening partnership from just 70 balls. During the course, the pair scored the fastest hundred by any team in the IPL 2011.

After such a blistering start, it became a little too hard of a job to match the excellence for the later batsmen but a strong finish by Venugopal Rao (28 not out from 15 – 3 fours, 1 six) and NV Ojha (19 not out from eight, 1 four, 2 sixes) propelled the home side to the highest total of the current season of 231 runs for the loss of only four wickets from 20 overs.
There was nothing to talk about as far as bowling of Kings XI Punjab is concerned as the best economy rate for them was nine runs per over by Piyush Chawla (1/36) while rest of the guys had their economy rates in the double figures.

Even after scoring over 200 runs, Delhi Daredevils couldn’t have the luxury of getting relieved as Kings XI Punjab had the batting power to chase this total and they started off in great fashion as their skipper Adam Gilchrist (42 from 33 – 8 fours, 1 six) and Paul Valthaty (14 from 10 – 2 sixes) gave them an electric start. Despite losing the in-form Valthaty, Punjab looked on course as Shaun Marsh (95 from 46 – 9 fours, 6 sixes) joined forces with his captain to score 72 runs for the second wicket from just 40 balls thus keeping the visitors in the game.

However, after losing Gilchrist, the Punjab team lost their way just a little bit as Dinesh Karthik (6 from 5, 1 four) and David Hussey (20 from 10 – 2 sixes) failed to keep up with the soaring asking rate and lost their wickets in a bid to use long handles before AM Nayar (17 not out from 13, 3 fours) batted out the final overs to steer Punjab to score of 202 runs in their quota of overs.
Ajit Agarkar was the only bowler who managed to capture two scalps but during the course he went for 47 runs from his four overs. The best bowler in the match from economy rate perspective was Morne Morkel who went for 8.00 runs per over.

David Warner was declared Man of the Match for his blistering innings at the top. Despite of winning the match in style, Delhi Daredevils are still languishing at the last position in the Indian Premier League 2011 points table with four points.
